Sustainable Hardware Finishes

As a collective world, we’re called upon to think about sustainability and what we can do to help lessen our individual impacts. Often, we’re drawn to hot topics like vehicle emissions, recycling, or not using as many straws. But sustainability is a multifaceted machine, and a sizable number of gears depends on the way manufacturers make clothes.
Electroplating is a process that creates the shiny, weather-resistant buttons on our jeans, or other metal décor on garments. The operation plates metals together using hydrolysis, but it’s especially harsh on our environment.
We’ve found a way to turn this chemically-laden process into an environmentally-friendly endeavor. Our ECO Colour Finishes have the following characteristics
– 90% less harmful metal waste
– 75% less water usage
– 90% use of recycled water
– 60% less electricity use

National Zipper Day


It’s Our Birthday!

Los Angeles, CA – (29th April 2019) – Of the things you’re thankful for, a sturdy zipper might not be at the top of your list. But being that it’s International Zipper Day, let’s take a pause to reflect on the handy little contraptions that work hard to make our everyday lives a little easier.

Without zippers, jeans wouldn’t be as awesome. Buttoned boots would be straining thumbs across the globe. There’d be a serious uptick in unwanted wardrobe malfunctions, and people wouldn’t be able to warm up or keep cool with a simple flick of their jacket. Credit cards would canvass streets as more pockets wouldn’t stay shut. And purses—oh, the purses. They’d spill a black hole’s worth of cargo every time they tipped over.

The Timeline


About Us

It all started in 1893 with a fashion crisis, of course. A simple, yet very tedious task of putting on a boot. With up to twenty buttons to fasten, the Talon founder knew there had to be a more efficient, less time-consuming way to put on a pair of boots. It was the late 1800s after all, workers were bustling and factories were booming.
Fast forward to 1902, where Talon zippers expanded to Navy life vests, to provide nothing but the best quality for our service members. In 1940 innovation continues through a critical time where war and worlds were colliding. The need to keep GI’s safe and warm drove the new stitching into leather bomber jackets.
Then came the defining decade for fashion, politics and pop culture in the 1960s. Levi Strauss was in the center of it all and Talon was there to supply the new and increasing demand. By 2016, Talon had become a source for multiple solutions, offering trims, zippers, packaging, and inventing the stretch collar.
Today, our world requires better practices and sustainability. Talon introduced it’s Sustainability Program which includes Zippers, Trims, and BDG2.0: oxo-biodegradable packaging solutions.

CFDA x Lexus Sustainable Fashion Initiative


Like the little black dress, innovation has remained a staple tradition in the fashion world. Most designers can construct a breathtaking collection wowing front-row-gazing buyers. But it takes a leader to truly innovate as globalization tears down the geographic footprint. The C3 collection is an example and inspiration of what can happen when leaders come together to make a positive impact.

The C3 collection – as in Circular Capsule Collection – is a limited edition collaboration created exclusively by CFDA + Lexus Fashion Initiative 2.0 finalists Studio 189, Cienne, Whit, M.Patmos, and St. Roche. “The collection is produced with Cradle2Cradle Gold Certified Millennium Nature, an organic wool yarn originally developed for Stella McCartney and made in Italy by Zegna Baruffa. Karl Lagerfeld: Admiring a Fashion Icon and Legacy


The fashion industry mourned yesterday as one of the most influential designers and iconic figures in fashion, Karl Lagerfeld, has passed. Lagerfeld was an inspiring creative genius who touched the lives of many both personally and professionally with his kind-hearted character. The prolific figure made Paris the fashion capital with his unprecedented work, couture designs and contribution at Chanel and Fendi. The super chic, glove wearing, black-sunglass-loving creative had an extraordinary sense for imagination that was unmeasurable, bringing larger than life designs collection after collection.

It is no doubt that Lagerfeld will remain a legacy and a part of fashion has recently died. The statement posted on Lagerfeld’s official Instagram account says it all, “He was one of the most influential and celebrated designers of the 21st century and an iconic, universal symbol of style. Driven by a phenomenal sense of creativity, Karl was passionate, powerful and intensely curious. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest designers of our time, and there are no words to express how much he will be missed.”

Sustainability


Despite any well-established brand loyalty that fashion companies have worked hard to achieve, there is one trend that has become an imperative element in which brands must coincide with: sustainability. It’s the current shift shaping the future of the fashion industry. According to the State of Fashion 2018 report by BoF & McKinsey, 66% of global millennials are willing to spend more on brands that are sustainable. This sector has not only remained fundamentally stable, but continues to rise, and brands are noticing the opportunity to grow their market share. Ralph Lauren Collection Finishes with a Talon Zip

Ralph Lauren’s latest 2019 Spring collection showcases warm colors and designs, reflecting the diverse nature of style within the American lifestyle luxury brand. The creative director for men’s design, John Wrazej, told Vogue about the inspiration he’d drawn from early 20th century Art Deco travel posters for the French Riviera. The style of the collection resembles the picturesque landscapes that piqued the interests of aspiring travelers, completed with a sleek finish, a design technique introduced and commonly used in 20th century designs.

An apparent design element in all the new outerwear jackets is the bold use of strong, block colors, which is a clear rendition from the Art Deco style most notably used in architecture. It’s fair to assume that the ideological inspiration drawn from warm island vibes serves as an escape at a time of dark, political upheaval. Or rather it was the mise-en-scène of Lauren’s latest Caribbean retreat. Either way, Wrazej returned from rippling blue seas, valiantly set down his whiskey, and headed straight to into the showroom for one last debrief.

Inspiration came to life, designs remained a success, and there was never fret of failure. ‘Cause in the end, there is always something that holds it all together: a little metal Talon zipper.

Talon International, Inc. Reports 2016 First Quarter Financial Results


LOS ANGELES, CA – May 12, 2016 – Talon International, Inc. (OTCQB: TALN), a leading global supplier of zippers, apparel fasteners, trim and stretch technology products, reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2016.

Highlights

●          First quarter 2016 revenues increased $457,000, or 4.3%, versus the prior year to $11.3 million

●          Talon Trim revenues posted a 29% increase versus the prior year

Financial Results

Sales for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 were $11.3 million, reflecting an increase of $457,000, or 4.3%, as compared to the same period in 2015. The increase was driven by a $1.6 million increase in sales of Talon Trim products, compared to the same period in 2015, which consist primarily of sales to specialty retail branded customers. Sales of Talon Trim products increased during the period mainly due to new stretch technology programs and customers. Talon Zipper product sales in the first quarter of 2016 were $1.1 million lower than the same period in 2015 due to decreased sales to specialty retail brands customers as well as the Company’s mass merchandising brand customers.

“Talon continued to experience success with its Trim product line, with a revenue gain of 29% over the prior year,” stated Larry Dyne, Talon’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is as a result of strong customer partnerships and great products, both from our traditional Trim offerings as well as our Tekfit stretch technology. This growth was offset by continued softness in the Zipper product segment. In order to grow our business, we continue to focus on new product introductions, global expansion and entering regions close to our customer base. We’re pleased to see quarter over quarter growth in the first quarter and believe our initiatives will result in continued traction in 2016.”

Gross profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 was $4.2 million, or 37.0% of sales, compared to

$3.6 million, or 33.0% of sales, during the same period in 2015, reflecting an increase of $600,000. The increase is principally attributable to higher overall sales volumes and a greater mix of higher- margin products in the Talon Zipper and the Talon Trim products, as well as lower freight, duty and manufacturing support costs.

Operating expenses for the first quarter of 2016 were $3.9 million, which are $219,000 higher than operating expenses during the first quarter of 2015. Sales and marketing expenses for the quarter totaled $1.5 million, a decrease of $139,000 as compared to the same period in 2015, mainly due to a reduction in compensation costs, marketing expenses, new product development costs, and travel and entertainment expenses, partially offset by increased facilities and related expenses. General and administrative expenses for the three months ended March 31, 2016 totaled $2.4 million, or 21.6% of sales, compared to the prior year of $2.1 million, or 19.1% of sales. The increase of $359,000 was mainly due to increased compensation costs and professional and legal related expenses.

For the quarter ended March 31, 2016, operations reflected income before income taxes of $85,000 as compared to a loss before income taxes of $240,000 for the same quarter in 2015.

Net income for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 was $49,000 or $0.00 per share as compared to net loss of $159,000 or $0.00 per share for the quarter ended March 31, 2015.
