Talon International Launches 100% Sustainable Ghost Net Products

The only company producing a full range of trim items produced from 100% Ghost Net Plastic material.

A considerable advancement toward reducing the overabundance of plastic waste in our oceans, benefiting valuable partners and consumers alongside improving our indispensable home: Earth.

Woodland Hills, CA, September 8th, 2021After years of meaningful development, Talon International is proud to announce the launch of its innovative Ghost Net Products. The company successfully developed a solution to improving marine habitats by collecting and recycling the surplus of plastic waste that has consumed our beloved oceans.

Plastic waste has finally reached the top of society’s agenda. Only nine percent of the plastic produced since the beginning of the material’s revolutionary debut has been recycled. Unfortunately, much of the remainder invade our waters—4.9 billion tons consuming the habitats of vital marine wildlife. If the trend continues, our oceans will contain more plastic than fish in less than thirty years.

Talon has taken to collecting abandoned ghost nets, a substantial portion of our planet’s plastic waste, and developing them into an assortment of practical fashion items, including zippers, buckles, cord adjusters, buttons, and more. The company’s process is simple: search, collect, clean, regenerate, and develop the recycled resin into innovative products that will change the world, one ghost net at a time.

Talon International has been awarded the Global Recycled Standard by the INFL Laboratory and Institute, certifying that its Ghost Net Products and manufacturing practices conform with international voluntary standards. The company currently coordinates and operates the recycling of ghost nets found amongst China’s shores. Talon is honored to be the first audited and certified fishing net recycling system in China.

Larry Dyne, CEO of Talon International explains, “We believe that the solution is obvious. We have been practicing it for years now. Reuse! At Talon, we are at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. We coordinate and operate the collection and recycling of ocean waste plastic, including fishing nets, to reduce the environmental harm.”

Alongside their corporate efforts to push the boundaries with innovative designs and solutions, Talon International presents retailers everywhere the opportunity to take part in raising sustainability standards. Talon designed the sustainable Ghost Net Product line with their valued partners in mind, in hopes to encourage more retailers like yours to make a difference.

Hand-in-hand, companies everywhere have the power to make a positive, influential impact on the planet. Until zero ghost nets remain in our oceans, let us reduce, reuse, and recycle together.

Every customer is treated like a “Boutique” brand

Talon International, Inc is a global supplier of apparel fasteners, trim and interlining products to manufacturers of fashion apparel, specialty retailers, mass merchandisers, brand licensees and major retailers. Talon manufactures and distributes zippers and other fasteners under its Talon brand, known as the original American zipper invented in 1893. Larry Dyne, CEO of Talon; Peter Vaz, COO, Talon; and Herman Roup, President & Innovator of Adjustec Talon, discuss about the company’s growth story, the second patent achieved for Adjustec brandroll technology, and the new upcoming patents.

What are the basic differences in your various specialty waistbands like Talon, Tag-It and TekFit?

Herman Roup: Talon is the holding companies name in North America. Tag-it is the name in Asia. TekFit, now known as Adjustec, is a division of Talon, that develops, manufactures, and oversees our patented technology and knowhow.

What is unique to Adjusted? How is it different from similar clothing stretch technologies?

Herman Roup: There are no similar stretch technologies that compare with Adjustec. It can make non-stretch fabric stretch and recover. It can stop stretch fabric from blowing out (overstretching) and make straight fabric curve. Also, it can make fabric wick.

What does the 2nd US patent for Adjustec Bandroll Technology convert to?

Herman Roup: It widens the scope of patent number 1, protecting our IP and knowhow even more.

There are two patents for Adjustec Bandroll awaiting confirmation. What will be the application areas of the same?

Herman Roup: We want to apply this technology to the women’s market.

What are your design suggestions of incorporating Adjustec into garments?

Herman Roup: We like to think of ourselves as supplying “hidden magic.” You don’t see the change in the garment, it is all internal. Once the consumer discovers the level of performance we have created, they usually come back for more as they did 60 million times for Dockers chino’s and over 43 million times for PVH shirts.

Talon and Aramark have partnered for implementing Adjustec into Aramark’s pants and shorts. What has been the customer feedback so far?

Herman Roup: Aramark is so delighted with the performance of the product and the manufacturing systems we installed that they awarded us with the innovator of the year award for 2020.

How do garments that implement this technology score on parameters like longevity and durability?

Herman Roup: These products outperform their competitors because of increased yarn count and superior fusible products plus the patented process that they are subjected to.

Which are your patented manufacturing systems and equipment that are required by companies to implement the special stretch technology?

Herman Roup: In all the factories where we use equipment, we have a multi-feed system that usually increases productivity to 5 folds and that forms part of a multi-equipment system. Secondly, there is a patented fold and press system that also radically improves productivity before and in-line of performance.

Please give us a background of Talon. In which countries do you have your footprints as on date?

Peter Vaz: At Talon, we invented the world’s first zipper in 1893 and changed the face of fashion industry forever, while servicing global retailers and luxury brands through design and performance. Over the last 40 years, Talon’s core offering in customised trimming, tag & packaging solutions through our global supply chain, has become synonymous with sustainability and reliability. Our legacy of innovation continues with Adjustec, our patented technology which gives comfort through stretch and recovery, creating differentiated value. Heritage is who we are, innovation with sustainability is what we do.

Our footprint has continued to grow over the last 12 months with our presence and associations in US, UK, Turkey, Bangladesh, Vietnam, India, China (north and south), Peru, Central and South America.

What has been your growth story till now?

Larry Dyne: 127 years in business with the Talon brand. Our current growth is focused on any area that we can add value for the customer. As customers reduce their resources, we begin to play a bigger role.

Which are your major products for the apparel industry and what is the market share of each?

Larry Dyne: Hangtags, labels, patches (all kinds), metal hardware, zippers, packaging, and poly bags – keen focus on ecological (ECO) conversions of these same products.

Who are your global competitors? How do you differentiate your products against competition?

Larry Dyne: Avery Dennison, SML, Labelon. Our key differentiators are service levels and customer touch. Every customer is treated like a “Boutique” brand.

Which are your major markets? Which markets hold potential for future?

Larry Dyne: Key markets are APAC region and Central America. We believe strongly in both these regions specifically Guatemala, Honduras, Vietnam, and Bangladesh for the next 5-7 years.

How did the pandemic disrupt your business? What were the major issues faced and how did you tide over them?

Larry Dyne: We supply to both direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands and wholesale brands. The wholesale brands were most effected as they rely on retail and online traffic. DTC continued to stay strong. Some DTC brands have shown significant increases in sales and product volume during the pandemic. We were also able to pivot and utilise our existing infrastructure to supply PPE products. We procured and shipped hundreds of millions of Nitrile gloves to various fortune 500 companies for their own internal consumption. This helped the company, while the market took time to recover.

Which are the current innovations and patents you are working on?

Larry Dyne: We have a robust patent portfolio surrounding our Tekfit / Adjustec products as well as some new innovative zippers for kids apparel will we launch in the market in Q4 2021.

What next on the cards? Any strategic partnerships in pipeline?

Larry Dyne: Always looking for strategic partnerships. At the current time, we have 2 very interesting discussions on the table that would most probably be executed later this year. Both are well known industry giants.

Woodland Hills, CA, July 8th, 2021The US Patent and Trademark Office recently awarded Talon’s Adjustec a second patent in a series of patterns concerning their Adjustec stretch technology Bandroll product. The patent provides additional protection for the Adjustec Bandroll—the design behind Talon’s Inventor of the Year Award for 2020, awarded by Aramark. Following this second patent are two more patterns pending for the Adjustec Bandroll that cover even a wider range of applications.

The Adjustec stretch technology has brought fashion to a new level of comfort and performance with their innovative stretch technology, using fusibles with any material. The Bandroll offers a stretch-fit solution for garments–particularly dress pant waistbands–providing a comfortable and durable fit that lasts a lifetime. Aramark the workwear Giant has adopted it as well in their quest to ensure they lead in providing performance in the workwear field.

“We believe in innovation and technology, and we use patents to protect our intellectual property,” says Larry Dyne, CEO of Talon International. “The modern production reality in the textile market is that anyone that tries to make these updated waistbands or collars without our approval, or a license from us, would, in fact, be infringing our patterns and pending patents.”

Alongside creative design patterns, Talon’s Adjustec division patents provide companies everywhere the opportunity to revolutionize the way they make fashion. With constant innovation in the fashion world, the Adjustec Bandroll provides the level of performance desired by buyers everywhere without sacrificing design and style.

“We believe that all modern pants…needs our technology to be competitive…Companies will also need our patented manufacturing systems and equipment to enjoy the incredible efficiencies and savings they provide.” Says Herman Roup, President and Inventor of Adjustec.

Since their revolutionary zipper invention in 1893, and over 128yrs of doing it right, Talon International remains committed to pushing boundaries with advanced, state-of-the-art design solutions, including trims, zippers, packaging, stretch technologies, and sustainable solutions. Talon International Joins CFDA’s Supply Chain Collective

CFDAxTALON

LOS ANGELES, CA –  Dec 18th 2019 –  On Friday Dec 13, 2019, Talon International and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced their partnership for the CFDA’s Supply Chain Collective, the not-for-profit trade association’s new initiative designed to bring even greater value to the nearly 500 American womenswear, menswear, jewelry and accessory designers in their membership.

“The Supply Chain Collective aims to help alleviate hurdles related to topics such as sustainable solutions for materials, packaging, hangers and plastics, logistics for fulfillment, warehousing and distribution, inventory management, size inclusivity, and artisan sourcing, among others,” wrote Cal McNeil, Program Manager at the CFDA  on Friday. “The inaugural Supply Chain Collective partners include: ApparelMagic, Arch & Hook, Bergen Logistics, KEDIC Fashion Workshop, Nest, SwatchOn, Talon International, Inc., and TIPA.”

Founded in 1893, Talon International’s story began with fulfilling one of the fashion industry’s most basic needs via the zipper. It’s that revolutionary invention that set the company’s deep roots as a fashion forward accessories supplier now celebrating 125 years as a pioneer in the industry. Talon is an integral piece in moving fashion forward with its offering of trim, packaging, Adjustec® stretch technology, and more that have all evolved within the industry. As such, Talon International will now be the CFDA’s Supply Chain Collective  provider of zippers, trim, packaging, stretch technology, as well as providing a variety of sustainable and ECO like solutions. The latter will be fulfilled, in part, with their use of materials such as Ocean Waste, Recycled Polyester, Eco Plating, BCI Cotton, Oxo-biodegradable Polybags, FSC Paper, and more, along with offering full sets of marketing materials curated to give CFDA members an edge in the industry.

Having longstanding partnerships with many of the CFDA’s existing members already, Talon International’s CEO Larry Dyne shared his excitement to begin collaborating with many of the organization’s other members, as well as the contributions Talon will be making to the Supply Chain Collective’s sustainability initiatives.

“As a provider of single-use zippers, trim, and packaging products, we are finding imaginative ways our customers may re-use our products rather than just throw them away,” says Dyne. “Whether it’s our sustainable hang tag that can be planted to grow trees, our Ocean Waste Ghost Nets material that can be transformed into zippers, buckles, D Rings, buttons, and more, we focus on reducing our impact on the environment.”

Jean Bottom Zippers

Metal Zippers

BottomZippers One of the most unpleasant situations for a customer is when the zipper on their favorite new pants or jacket disintegrates on its first use. But when you get your hands on quality denim, outerwear, or a special bag, something immediately noticeable is the high-caliber craftsmanship of a sturdy zipper.
Talon International invented the zipper in 1893, and our genuine metal elements and superior construction makes for a satisfying zip unmatched in quality and dependability. Brands love our trustworthy, polished finishes, and our hasty turn-around time leaves other zipper makers in the dust.
Unlike low-quality zippers, ours like to stay together. The teeth, tab, tape, and slider of our zippers all link in formation to secure everything you or your customers need to secure, without the worry of an unwanted wardrobe malfunction.
Our devoted brands feel the difference with our metal zippers. The toughness is real, and the aesthetic is compelling.

Sustainable Hardware Finishes

Sustainability

As a collective world, we’re called upon to think about sustainability and what we can do to help lessen our individual impacts. Often, we’re drawn to hot topics like vehicle emissions, recycling, or not using as many straws. But sustainability is a multifaceted machine, and a sizable number of gears depends on the way manufacturers make clothes.
Electroplating is a process that creates the shiny, weather-resistant buttons on our jeans, or other metal décor on garments. The operation plates metals together using hydrolysis, but it’s especially harsh on our environment.
We’ve found a way to turn this chemically-laden process into an environmentally-friendly endeavor. Our ECO Colour Finishes have the following characteristics
– 90% less harmful metal waste
– 75% less water usage
– 90% use of recycled water
– 60% less electricity use
Talon International’s finishes are free of toxic chemicals like cyanide, and water and electricity is used sparingly through the electroplating process. Every finish on each shirt or pair of jeans comes with a more sustainable message—it’s metal with a heart. Wouldn’t you want to fasten one of those buttons?
Enjoy a cleaner world with Talon! Find the product you want and ask us about our Sustainable Hardware Finishes.

Revolutionary Proprietary Zipper

Character Zips

Zippers It’s big news, and it comes in the form of familiar logos and faces. We’re introducing our most revolutionary announcement since our invention of the zipper in 1893—the Character Zip.
For over a hundred years, the zipper has improved in performance but hasn’t varied much in appearance. A bit of metal, a pull tab, and teeth that hold everything together has been the routine aesthetic. But now, kids, sports fans, large corporations, and those that wish to snazz up their garments with extra bling are able to proudly display their favorite animated characters, sports teams, companies, and shiny accessories. It’s an entirely new realm of brand loyalty.

Engineered with precision and exceeding all safety  and strength requirements, the Character Zip’s proprietary design makes it easier to zip than your average zipper, and they’re customizable for any brand and nearly any design.

This is a massive opportunity for brands to soar to new heights with a unique way of advertising. And consumers are delighted at the opportunity for an added touch of individuality and expression in what they’re wearing. The Character Zip is a win-win.

National Zipper Day

It’s Our Birthday!

Los Angeles, CA – (29th April 2019) – Of the things you’re thankful for, a sturdy zipper might not be at the top of your list. But being that it’s International Zipper Day, let’s take a pause to reflect on the handy little contraptions that work hard to make our everyday lives a little easier.

Without zippers, jeans wouldn’t be as awesome. Buttoned boots would be straining thumbs across the globe. There’d be a serious uptick in unwanted wardrobe malfunctions, and people wouldn’t be able to warm up or keep cool with a simple flick of their jacket. Credit cards would canvass streets as more pockets wouldn’t stay shut. And purses—oh, the purses. They’d spill a black hole’s worth of cargo every time they tipped over.

At Talon International, we’re all about a first-rate zipper. And we’re especially proud to have invented the zipper in 1893, in response to the time-consuming nature of fastening nearly 20 buttons up a boot. This ushered an innovative and functional mechanism into the fashion world, and today, we’re the one of the world’s most recognized brand amid apparel patrons. We’re continuing to push the envelope with revolutionary wearable technology.

At Talon, we believe good zippers make the world go round. Read more about our heritage at https://lnkd.in/g36gwPG.

The Character Zip

Los Angeles, CA – (29th April 2019) – As a celebration of National Zipper Day, The World’s Original Zipper Company is poised to disrupt the apparel and accessory market with its latest invention and add another reason to celebrate the day that changed our lives forever.

Talon International Inc. is excited to unveil a revolutionary zipper to the industry. This one-of-a-kind product was designed with the cutting edge technology you have come to expect from the company that invented the zipper…

Introducing the Character Zip. The next gen in zippers. A sophisticated, yet powerful way for consumers to display brand loyalty. A new concept for kids to show-off their favorite animated characters, fans to indulge in their sports obsessions and a fresh way to flaunt bling on a garment. And that is just the beginning…

The proprietary design of the Character Zip makes it easy to use. The traditional zipper pull is replaced with an intuitively engineered mechanism that meets all the strength and compliance requirements but functions differently than a standard zipper.

What makes the Character Zip so unique? The zipper pull is crafted in the shape of a character. From a beloved superhero, to a favorite sports team, to the shape of a heart. Picture your favorite Disney Avengers character, a popular emoji, a top NFL Draft player Jersey, or your corporate logo. The possibilities are endless.

Now an inspired way to get fresh branding on a zipper. This groundbreaking product has huge market potential for toy licensing, character licensing, sports marketing and creating brand awareness in general.

Application wise…anywhere an existing zipper is used is an opportunity for Character Zip. This fresh construction can be applied to clothing such as, jackets and zip-up sweatshirts, bags and backpacks.

This is a breakthrough idea for a new customer experience and an excellent opportunity for brands to showcase their properties. We KNOW the massive appeal of Character Zip will activate the best minds in the biz to rise up with us for blockbuster success. Be the first to market with this state-of-the-art product.

*Due to the uniqueness of their creation, Talon International Inc. has protected this innovation with the appropriate patents and all other intellectual property.

Workwear

As Tough As Your Toughest Job

For laborers, work gets messy. Especially when one is knee-deep in concrete, stone, wood, metal, dirt, and other elements that’ll eradicate the most robust of manicures in seconds. And when you’re in the trenches, clothes, shoes, and fastenings have a tendency to fatigue—quickly.
At Talon International, we saw the need for a zipper as tough as our hardest working men and women. So we fashioned a line of metal zippers with the tenacity of a brick wall and the resilience of a mighty Sequoia. They’re workwear zippers built to withstand the roughest conditions.
Talon formulated and comprehensively tested the very first line of zippers specifically designed for workwear applications in mind. And many of our other products are just as mighty. At Talon, you’ll also find:
Snaps —Fasteners for jeans and shirts.
Tack buttons —Button up outerwear, denim, and bags.
Rivets —Hold it all together.
Leather —100% real, hardy cowhide.
Patches —Custom fabric patches built to last.
Woven labels —Sturdy threads that make for eye-popping branding.

The Timeline

About Us

It all started in 1893 with a fashion crisis, of course. A simple, yet very tedious task of putting on a boot. With up to twenty buttons to fasten, the Talon founder knew there had to be a more efficient, less time-consuming way to put on a pair of boots. It was the late 1800s after all, workers were bustling and factories were booming.
Fast forward to 1902, where Talon zippers expanded to Navy life vests, to provide nothing but the best quality for our service members. In 1940 innovation continues through a critical time where war and worlds were colliding. The need to keep GI’s safe and warm drove the new stitching into leather bomber jackets.
Then came the defining decade for fashion, politics and pop culture in the 1960s. Levi Strauss was in the center of it all and Talon was there to supply the new and increasing demand. By 2016, Talon had become a source for multiple solutions, offering trims, zippers, packaging, and inventing the stretch collar.
Today, our world requires better practices and sustainability. Talon introduced it’s Sustainability Program which includes Zippers, Trims, and BDG2.0: oxo-biodegradable packaging solutions.
Whether it’s factory workers, service members, or wartime GI’s, TALON IS INSPIRED BY THE PEOPLE!

CFDA x Lexus Sustainable Fashion Initiative

Like the little black dress, innovation has remained a staple tradition in the fashion world. Most designers can construct a breathtaking collection wowing front-row-gazing buyers. But it takes a leader to truly innovate as globalization tears down the geographic footprint. The C3 collection is an example and inspiration of what can happen when leaders come together to make a positive impact.

The C3 collection – as in Circular Capsule Collection – is a limited edition collaboration created exclusively by CFDA + Lexus Fashion Initiative 2.0 finalists Studio 189, Cienne, Whit, M.Patmos, and St. Roche. “The collection is produced with Cradle2Cradle Gold Certified Millennium Nature, an organic wool yarn originally developed for Stella McCartney and made in Italy by Zegna Baruffa. The nearly zero-waste knitwear is made using Shima technology, working with CFDA manufacturing partners, Tailored Industry in Brooklyn, Nimbly in Los Angeles and New York Embroidery in the Garment Center, Down to the details, C3 is impact-positive including the recycled materials used for hangtags by Talon International.”  Talon’s honored to support this collection, the leaders and the innovators.

Patches

Trims

Patches lay the groundwork for detailing and brand identity. It’s the simple piece that takes a garment from basic to unique. Our patches are offered in a variety of different materials to produce maximum visuals and efficiency. For example, our embroidered patches allow for high levels of detail which is ideal for prominent colors and artwork used on hats or other garments. Fabric is great for graphic imagery due to its lightweight, producing vibrant colors through prints and weaves and is offered in woven, canvas, printed, or distressed. Jacron, due to its durable, water-resistant qualities, is most commonly used for bags, outerwear, sportswear or denim and can have a vintage or modern look depending on the design approach. Latex is not only a great option for waterproof and flexibility elements, but has a sleek, modern appearance and enhanced texture. With the many forms of materials to choose from, your patch design elements and vision is immeasurable. Durable, cost-effective and created just how you envision it. Visit our site for some inspiration and examples on how you can utilize certain materials to create your dream patch.

Adjustec

STRETCH TECHNOLOGY

We knew it was time to take action as things started to get a little stretchy. Too many times we’ve seen ‘tummy tuck technology’ underperform or shorten the lifespan of a garment. No one should have to stress about a rip in the pants after getting down on the dance floor, we thought. And a garment that conforms but doesn’t recover? Well that’s like putting money in the trash. No one should have to choose between comfort and practicality. Both literally and figuratively, we want our cake and we want to eat it too. So we set out to do what we do best: deliver. On September 12, 2017 our patent baby was born, and we brought a revolution to the shirt collar. Adjustec is one of Talon’s cutting edge innovations that incorporates the patented and patent-pending stretch technology that creates long-lasting, durable waistband and collar stands. This technology transforms non-flexible denim or woven fabrics to remarkably expand and then recover shape. These stretch fibers have high retention making the apparel inevitably sustainable. These garments aren’t just well-rounded; they bring the whole package. Talon’s here to ease your world, one denim-dilemma at a time.

Karl Lagerfeld: Admiring a Fashion Icon and Legacy

The fashion industry mourned yesterday as one of the most influential designers and iconic figures in fashion, Karl Lagerfeld, has passed. Lagerfeld was an inspiring creative genius who touched the lives of many both personally and professionally with his kind-hearted character. The prolific figure made Paris the fashion capital with his unprecedented work, couture designs and contribution at Chanel and Fendi. The super chic, glove wearing, black-sunglass-loving creative had an extraordinary sense for imagination that was unmeasurable, bringing larger than life designs collection after collection.

It is no doubt that Lagerfeld will remain a legacy and a part of fashion has recently died. The statement posted on Lagerfeld’s official Instagram account says it all, “He was one of the most influential and celebrated designers of the 21st century and an iconic, universal symbol of style. Driven by a phenomenal sense of creativity, Karl was passionate, powerful and intensely curious. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest designers of our time, and there are no words to express how much he will be missed.”

Sustainability

Despite any well-established brand loyalty that fashion companies have worked hard to achieve, there is one trend that has become an imperative element in which brands must coincide with: sustainability. It’s the current shift shaping the future of the fashion industry. According to the State of Fashion 2018 report by BoF & McKinsey, 66% of global millennials are willing to spend more on brands that are sustainable. This sector has not only remained fundamentally stable, but continues to rise, and brands are noticing the opportunity to grow their market share. Talon exists to create and provide products that suit market needs. We lead by innovation and live by inspiration. Talon partnered up with a Japanese technology company to develop BDG2.0, additives that enable plastic to oxo-biodegrade. These applications are used in our products to provide sustainable packaging, trims, labels, patches, and even parts of our zippers. Sustainability is the future, don’t get left behind.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2019 Collection

Ralph Lauren Collection Finishes with a Talon Zip

Ralph Lauren’s latest 2019 Spring collection showcases warm colors and designs, reflecting the diverse nature of style within the American lifestyle luxury brand. The creative director for men’s design, John Wrazej, told Vogue about the inspiration he’d drawn from early 20th century Art Deco travel posters for the French Riviera. The style of the collection resembles the picturesque landscapes that piqued the interests of aspiring travelers, completed with a sleek finish, a design technique introduced and commonly used in 20th century designs.

An apparent design element in all the new outerwear jackets is the bold use of strong, block colors, which is a clear rendition from the Art Deco style most notably used in architecture. It’s fair to assume that the ideological inspiration drawn from warm island vibes serves as an escape at a time of dark, political upheaval. Or rather it was the mise-en-scène of Lauren’s latest Caribbean retreat. Either way, Wrazej returned from rippling blue seas, valiantly set down his whiskey, and headed straight to into the showroom for one last debrief.

Inspiration came to life, designs remained a success, and there was never fret of failure. ‘Cause in the end, there is always something that holds it all together: a little metal Talon zipper.

Brands envisioned luxury, so we invented Lusso.

Sustainable Solutions

Fashion is here to stay, but pollution needs to go.

With billions of plastic bags and harmful chemicals being used worldwide, non-sustainable materials have been a major cause in the disruption of our environment. These harmful materials release toxic chemicals, kill animals, clogs runoffs, and so much more.

– 93% of Americans age 6 years or older test positive for BPA (a known carcinogen).

– 50% of plastic used is thrown away after 1 use with average life of 15 minutes.

– 500 Billion plastic bags are used worldwide. More than 1 million bags are used every minute.

In an effort to create a solution that retains its function, Talon International has partnered with a Japanese technology company to develop next level sustainable solutions. Details matter and here’s why; Oxo-biodegradable options are COMPLETELY RECYCLABLE. Degradable on both land and sea. Uses no methane gas. Controllable degradation period, And is cost-effective. Fashion is here to stay, but the pollution needs to go. We are your sustainable solution partner for trims, packaging, and even certain parts of a zipper…. see our website for more – link below.

After years of testing and trial runs, Talon has perfected its Flex Collar invention, using its proprietary equipment and processes, and ever improving materials to provide a new level of comfort for our necks. The Flex Collar technology has already been adopted in formal shirts by Van Huesen, CALVIN KLEIN, Geoffrey Beene, TOMMY HILFIGER, Arrow, Michael Kors, Chaps, Eagle and IZOD. This latest patent is another example of the innovative technology that Talon brings to the apparel market, the most recent being the invisible, expanding waistband which has sold in the tens of millions worldwide.

Herman Roup, president of Talon’s Tekfit division, stated “At Talon we are all about innovation. We have an amazing history, including the inventor of the original Zipper, first zipper to be used in outer space, and now, innovators of various stretch technologies. Talon is committed to continue its innovative culture, bringing new technologies to the apparel industry.”

Talon International, Inc. Reports 2016 First Quarter Financial Results

LOS ANGELES, CA – May 12, 2016 – Talon International, Inc. (OTCQB: TALN), a leading global supplier of zippers, apparel fasteners, trim and stretch technology products, reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2016.

Highlights

●          First quarter 2016 revenues increased $457,000, or 4.3%, versus the prior year to $11.3 million

●          Talon Trim revenues posted a 29% increase versus the prior year

Financial Results

Sales for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 were $11.3 million, reflecting an increase of $457,000, or 4.3%, as compared to the same period in 2015. The increase was driven by a $1.6 million increase in sales of Talon Trim products, compared to the same period in 2015, which consist primarily of sales to specialty retail branded customers. Sales of Talon Trim products increased during the period mainly due to new stretch technology programs and customers. Talon Zipper product sales in the first quarter of 2016 were $1.1 million lower than the same period in 2015 due to decreased sales to specialty retail brands customers as well as the Company’s mass merchandising brand customers.

“Talon continued to experience success with its Trim product line, with a revenue gain of 29% over the prior year,” stated Larry Dyne, Talon’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is as a result of strong customer partnerships and great products, both from our traditional Trim offerings as well as our Tekfit stretch technology. This growth was offset by continued softness in the Zipper product segment. In order to grow our business, we continue to focus on new product introductions, global expansion and entering regions close to our customer base. We’re pleased to see quarter over quarter growth in the first quarter and believe our initiatives will result in continued traction in 2016.”

Gross profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 was $4.2 million, or 37.0% of sales, compared to

$3.6 million, or 33.0% of sales, during the same period in 2015, reflecting an increase of $600,000. The increase is principally attributable to higher overall sales volumes and a greater mix of higher- margin products in the Talon Zipper and the Talon Trim products, as well as lower freight, duty and manufacturing support costs.

Operating expenses for the first quarter of 2016 were $3.9 million, which are $219,000 higher than operating expenses during the first quarter of 2015. Sales and marketing expenses for the quarter totaled $1.5 million, a decrease of $139,000 as compared to the same period in 2015, mainly due to a reduction in compensation costs, marketing expenses, new product development costs, and travel and entertainment expenses, partially offset by increased facilities and related expenses. General and administrative expenses for the three months ended March 31, 2016 totaled $2.4 million, or 21.6% of sales, compared to the prior year of $2.1 million, or 19.1% of sales. The increase of $359,000 was mainly due to increased compensation costs and professional and legal related expenses.

For the quarter ended March 31, 2016, operations reflected income before income taxes of $85,000 as compared to a loss before income taxes of $240,000 for the same quarter in 2015.

Net income for the quarter ended March 31, 2016 was $49,000 or $0.00 per share as compared to net loss of $159,000 or $0.00 per share for the quarter ended March 31, 2015.

Talon International, Inc. Becomes a bluesign® System Partner

LOS ANGELES, CA – July 8, 2016 – Talon International, Inc. (OTCQB: TALN), a leading global supplier of zippers, apparel fasteners, trim and stretch technology products, announced that is has become a bluesign® system partner, joining a highly respected network of brands and manufacturers who are interested in improving resource sustainability in the manufacture of their products by reducing the use of harmful chemicals and their impact on the environment.

The bluesign® system is a globally renowned initiative which works with chemical suppliers, textile mills and component manufacturers to eliminate harmful substances from the supply chain and sets and controls standards for an environmentally friendly and safe production. This is a significant achievement for the Talon brand, as the bluesign® certification covers a wide range of our core products including zippers, heat seals, metal hardware, and woven and printed labels and tapes.”

Bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safer for the environment, workers, and end customers.

Textile manufacturers that become bluesign® system partners agree at the outset to establish management systems for improving environmental performance in five key areas of the production process: resource productivity, consumer safety, water emissions, air emissions, and occupational health and safety.
